Who is The Fortnite Guy and why are pro players angry with him?

Popular YouTuber Fortnite community, after several players and fans called him out for alleged wrongdoings, misinformation and supposedly biased videos.

The Fortnite Guy is has amassed over 400,000 subscribers, thanks to his videos covering drama and news in the community. 

However, he has been accused of making videos that lack the proper research, thus spreading false or unverified information, knowingly or otherwise, with potentially detrimental impacts on players’ careers.

He caught the attention of FaZe Clan shortly after news broke of Turner ‘Tfue‘ Tenney’s FaZe Clan lawsuit against the organization, after a video he uploaded on May 20, claiming Tfue was caught ‘lying’ about the terms of his contract by FaZe Clan co-owner Ricky ‘Banks’ Banks.

However, on May 23, The Fortnite Guy changes the story, reporting that it was in fact FaZe Clan who were caught in the lie.

Banks and The Fortnite Guy also got into an argument on Twitter over FaZe H1ghsky1’s contract – the young player who lied about his age in order to stream and compete.

In a TwitLonger message by Fortnite pro Svennoss, he called out the YouTuber for previous occasions when he’s been wrong. Svennoss highlighted a Reddit comment from March, in which user jdubwillie highlighted a handful of situations that had been misreported by The Fortnite Guy. 

Svennoss’ TwitLonger hits on how The Fortnite Guy was shunned from the professional Overwatch community for similar misinformation, and how he created drama with his Overwatch League reporting.

Fortnite World Cup qualified player Jonathan ‘yung calculator’ Weber also called out The Fortnite Guy for having a history of profiting from the problems and misfortunes of fellow players.

Weber showed a thumbnail from The Fortnite Guy’s April 6, 2018 video from his previous channel, called “IS EFFECT POSSESSED???”, is in reference to the Dallas Fuel Overwatch pro.

He defended this coverage by saying it was news, and compared it to if LeBron James was doing the same thing, everyone would cover it.

TSM member Zexrow released a video on July 7 that helped clear up drama between him and fellow pro Clix. He apologized for angering Clix over a wager match, due to Zexrow receiving numerous hate comments.

He went on to accuse The Fortnite Guy of handling the story poorly. ZexRow revealed direct messages between himself and The Fortnite Guy, showing the latter claiming that the video would not make either player ‘look bad’.

In the video, it’s framed as though ZexRow responding to something Clix had said, but his microphone wasn’t on at the time, and so the response is to something else entirely.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, The Fortnite Guy continues to attract high viewership, thanks to a solid fan base that is continues to grow.

He’s not been wrong about everything either, recently predicting Kyle ‘Mongraal’ Jackson would sign with FaZe Clan back in June, a move that was confirmed on July 7.
