Before Epic Games announced that they would be investing $100 million into their esports prize pool for the year, hosting tournaments such as the weekly World Cup Qualifiers, Friday Fortnite was seen as the biggest tournament of the week and featured many of the top players battling it out.

The tournament was hosted by KEEMSTAR, who announced the return of Friday Fortnite after FaZe Banks decided to use the money they collected from Tfue amid the contract drama, to sponsor the tournament’s prize pool for a few weeks.

The Canadian rapper, Tory Lanez was among some of the biggest names in gaming for the return of the fan-favorite tournament, and he had some choice words for people who didn’t believe he was playing, after beating some of the tournament favorites, Ghost Aydan and 100 Thieves’ Elevate.

Although Tory Lanez was streaming on Twitch during the first few rounds of the tournament, many fans were skeptical that it was him playing as he did not have a webcam or a microphone on during his stream.

Tory Lanez posted a short video addressing some of the claims and stated that people were just mad because of how good he was, saying “I came and bodied a bunch of y’all on Fortnite. I’m a rapper and y’all mad because I bodied you?”

He then told popular streamer, SypherPK that he could have the win in their scheduled match, as they were both part of the same team, Luminosity Gaming, saying, “Yo Sypher, You can have the next game bro, you’re Luminosity imma give it to you.”

Tory Lanez went on to play the Loser’s Quarterfinal out after he had turned the stream offline and did end up falling to SypherPK and High Distortion placing top 6 in the tournament.

Despite the controversy, Friday Fortnite was seen as a massive success overall as viewer numbers rivaled that of the Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers, with over 10 million unique viewers.
